You Really Got a Hold of Me

Sometimes the magic happens when you step outside your usual partnerships.

Smokey Robinson’s classic, "You Really Got A Hold of Me", was covered by The Beatles on their second album “With The Beatles”. This soulful interpretation features one of the rarest vocal partnerships in their catalog: John and George singing two-part harmony.

Most Beatles fans immediately think of the distinctive harmonies of John and Paul, while this track showcases something different. John and George's voices merge with a raw, emotional quality that creates a unique sound, grittier than John and Paul's harmonies, yet equally compelling.

Once we step outside our usual roles, we invite new kinds of magic. The combinations we don't typically explore often hold great potential for breakthrough moments.

Knowing your role is important, but stepping outside that role can inspire growth and create unexpected magic. John and George stepping away from their usual roles added a new dimension to the Beatles' sound.

Even in business, sports, or personal relationships, we often default to familiar partnerships. But many special moments emerge when we embrace new combinations and perspectives.

“You Really Got a Hold of Me” is a prime example of The Beatles' openness to new influences. Not only did they cover several Motown songs, they incorporated that Motown sound into their writing.
